Opening Statement:

"Suicide is a conversation we can no longer afford to be silent about. It is a crisis that thrives in the dark, but we have the power to bring it into the light. The 'Be The Voice, Stop Suicide' campaign is a movement to break the silence and equip every person to be a lifesaver. This guide is your toolkit."

What is a "Lifesaver"?

A Lifesaver is not a professional therapist, but a caring individual who has committed to:

  • LEARN the warning signs of suicide.

  • LISTEN with empathy and without judgment.

  • LINK those in crisis to professional help.

  • LIVE as a beacon of hope and support.

Headline: Recognize the Warning Signs

Introduction:

"Recognizing the warning signs is the first step to being a voice for someone in need. A person considering suicide may not always show obvious signs. Be alert for a combination of these changes in behavior, mood, or conversation. Trust your gut—if something feels wrong, it's worth asking about."

List of Warning Signs (formatted for easy reading):

Talk:

  • "I want to die." or "I wish I were dead."

  • "I'm a burden to others."

  • "There's no point in living."

  • "Soon I won't have to worry about this anymore."

Behavior:

  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs.

  • Withdrawing from friends, family, and social activities.

  • Reckless or risky behavior.

  • Giving away prized possessions.

  • Researching methods of suicide.

Mood:

  • Despair or feeling hopeless about the future.

  • Irritability or severe mood swings.

  • Anxiety or agitation.

  • Humiliation or shame.

  • Loss of interest in things they once enjoyed.

          Headline: Three Lifesaving Steps

Step 1: Be Direct. Ask the Question.

  • The Script: "I've noticed you've been going through a lot lately, and I'm concerned about you. Sometimes when people feel this way, they think about ending their life. Are you thinking about suicide?"

  • Key Point: Studies show that asking this question does NOT put the idea in their head. It shows you care and gives them permission to be honest. It's often a great relief for them to finally talk about it.

Step 2: Be Present. Listen Without Judgment.

  • The Approach: Stay calm. Don't interrupt or try to "fix" their problems. Just listen. Your goal is to understand their pain, not to minimize it. Let them know you're there for them.

  • What to Say: "Thank you for trusting me with this." "I hear how much pain you're in." "You are not alone."

Step 3: Be a Link. Connect Them to Help.

  • The Action: Do not leave them alone. Get help immediately. Your role is to connect them with a professional who is trained to handle this crisis.

  • The Resources (to be filled with local and national information):

    • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or Text 988 anytime, 24/7.

    • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741.

    • Emergency Services: Call 911 if they are in immediate danger.

    • Local Resources: [List local mental health clinics, counselors, and support groups here. Include phone numbers and addresses.]

Headline: Your Divine Assignment

Message from Apostle Dr. Bridget C. Outlaw:

"My daughter or son, you have a divine calling and a designated destiny. The enemy seeks to destroy it, but the Lord has called you to a new level of devotion and determination. Just as David found his strength in the Cave of Adullam, you can use your difficult seasons to become a defender and a doer. Your pain is not your end; it is your preparation for a powerful purpose.

You are not alone in this fight. This is our collective assignment: to be the voice that breaks through the darkness. Let's stand together, not as bystanders, but as lifesavers, filled with the light and love of God. Your voice is a weapon. Use it to bring deliverance and development to a world in need."

Call to Partnership:

"Join our mission. Share this packet. Become a volunteer. Pray with us. Your partnership is vital to shedding the light and saving lives. For more information or to get involved, visit us at: www.daughtersofdestinyenterprise.org

"If you or someone you know is in crisis, please remember: Hope is always just a phone call away. Call or text 988."

Thank you.
